A Story of Crochet
First of all, let me start by saying that crochet, as an art, is somewhat of a
hidden gem. It seems that when I look around my general circle of friend there
are no crocheters in the bunch. In fact, when I find out someone
I even know as an occasional associate is a crocheter I get strangely excited.
However, as I scroll though social media and various crochet communities I find
there thousands upon thousands of people who enjoy it as much as I do (if not
more). Some have thriving businesses selling finished products, patterns,
crochet hooks, stitch markers, and other accessories. Crochet is here to stay
and I love it!
If you have a preconceived notion that crochet is for little old ladies, you are not alone.
Many people envision a little old lady (probably in a rocking chair with a couple of cats) crocheting granny squares at the local church. Although, this vision is likely, there are so many more things to envision.
You may be surprised to know that at the onset of the pandemic many people, young people, found themselves quarantined and bored. Many of the young people began searching for new hobbies. Crochet, as well as knitting, became one of the top hobbies to try. For several reasons... First, you don't need to invest in tons of equipment to start. All you need is a hook and some yarn to begin. Secondly, there are several online resources teaching beginners to crochet. Youtube, TikTok, Instagram... there are resources everywhere. And so it began...
Whether you discovered crochet as a child on your mom's knee or while on lockdown, there is something to be said about the beauty of things that can be created with yarn. I hope that through this blog I can further educate, encourage, and inspire you in all things crochet.
